Workshop on Shallow Geothermal Energy Solutions for Heating and Cooling in Jordan

Through the participation of the Jordan Hotels Association in a workshop on expanding geothermal solutions for heating and cooling in Jordan at the invitation of the International Finance Corporation, World Bank Group In collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, held on Sunday, 10/3/2024, at Fairmont Amman Hotel, this workshop was organized in the context of the new IFC initiative aimed at providing private sector-led solutions to expand shallow geothermal energy for heating and cooling throughout the Middle East.
This regional initiative is part of the participation of international finance partners in the area of climate and energy efficiency and will be implemented in close collaboration with the public, private and other relevant stakeholders in each country.
Through this workshop, IFC is collaborating with the Ministry to engage in a fruitful dialogue on potential opportunities and constraints to expand Jordan’s shallow geothermal heating and cooling solutions. The workshop brought together experienced international technical experts who provide relevant case studies and international experiences while expanding shallow geothermal solutions. Proven technologies, economics and financing options were discussed as well as policy issues to consider when expanding shallow geothermal solutions for heating and cooling. In addition, experts exchanged ideas with participants on concrete opportunities as well as potential obstacles that Jordan may exist and work to find solutions for their ease of application on the ground.
